An infectious diseases expert has told NSW residents to expect “a lot more pain” and warns Greater Sydney’s extended lockdown could potentially drag on for months despite a plateau in daily coronavirus cases. Modelling from the University of Melbourne showed it could take NSW as long as five weeks to bring the Delta outbreak under control. “It’s plateaued, if you look at 84,000 tests and 110 cases, sitting at around about 0.13%, it has plateaued and there’s lots of testing going on but they’re in for a lot more pain,” Dr Clay Golledge told Sky News. “This will go on for several more weeks, maybe even a couple more months before we see that lockdown lifted.”
