A five-year-old boy has become the youngest person to complete a gruelling 7,000-foot hike up three mountains in just one day within 12 hours.

Jaxon Krzysik scaled three mountains on the Pennine range, collectively known as the Yorkshire Three Peaks. In total, the schoolboy ascended a staggering 7,000ft – and walked a great distance further than that as he had to go all the way back down again.

The intrepid climber, from Burnley, Lancashire, is now the youngest person to achieve the feat in a single day, claiming the record from a six-year-old Yorkshire boy.

The youngster’s challenge saw him conquer Whernside, at 2,415ft, Ingleborough which is 2,372ft and the 2,277ft Pen-y-ghent.

And Jaxon is no stranger to climbing tall mountains, two years ago he became the youngest person ever to climb Britain’s three highest mountains in memory for a friend who had died of brain damage.

He reached the summit of Scafell Pike, in the Lake District, Ben Nevis, in Scotland and Snowdon, in Wales.

‘I could not be more chuffed with him. He’s a superstar.’

After Jaxon’s friend Ralph died, he and his father wanted to do something in his memory and decided on a walking challenge.

Ralph’s mother, Jade, from Burnley, said: ‘Jaxon would always be there waiting for Ralph every morning. They were best friends.

‘It was amazing for him to have some who was so close to him. I burst into tears when I found out what Jaxon was doing for Ralph. It’s just amazing, it really pulled on my heart strings.

‘It’s an incredible way to pay tribute to him. For someone so young to do something so amazing is fantastic.

‘I can’t put into words how much it means to us.’

Jaxon’s next goal is to climb all 214 Lake District peaks listed in Alfred Wainwright’s seven-volume Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells.

So far he has completed 51 of them.
