A seven-month-old baby has been mistaken for a toddler due to his impressive head of hair.

Sammie Pepperell’s son Beau, from Hornchurch, London, was born with head of jet black hair – resulting in hairdressers thinking he was two years old at his first haircut.

His head of locks came as no surprise to Sammie, 28, becayse she suffered from ‘terrible’ heartburn throughout the pregnancy, which she’s taken as proof that the old wives’ tale is true.

The customer assistant and Beau recently visited the hairdressers to give his hair a snip, and people in the salon were surprised to see a child so young in the chair.

Sammie said: ‘The hairdressers thought he was 12-18 months old. They had never had a baby so young in the salon chair before.

‘People are always complimenting Beau’s hair – they can never believe his age.’

Owing his hair to his father Darren Lucas, 34, she said she suspects this is where he got it from.

His mother suspects he got his hair from his father Darren Lucas, 34, and his Mauritian roots, and joked when he was born the ‘delivery room was in total shock’

She said: ‘Beau comes from a Mauritian background – he probably inherited his hair from his dad Darren.’

Sammie recalls drinking four pints of milk per day throughout her pregnancy to ease her heartburn, but she never believed her baby would be so hairy.

She said: ‘I was told about the old wives’ tale, but I didn’t expect him to arrive with a full head of hair.

‘It was the first thing I noticed. Everyone in the delivery room was in total shock. I assumed it would fall out, but it keeps on growing.

‘I love it! I didn’t want to get it cut beacuse it’s his trademark but it gets in his eyes, so he had to have a little trim.’
