‘I’M SORRY’: Morrison’s admission over bungled covid vaccine rollout

The Government is bringing forward the ability of chemists to administer jabs to get the country’s woeful vaccine rates up.

From Monday, chemists will be able to request to be given the green light to vaccinate people with the AstraZeneca jab.

That mans by mid-August you should be able to get AZ from your local pharmacy.

AZ was recommended for people over 60 but the Government has said that any adult can get if they give “informed consent”.

That consent was previously only available through GPs

but pharmacists will now be able to go through that process.

“Pharmacists will be able to give vaccines right across the population because the AstraZeneca vaccine is approved by the TGA for people above the age of 18,” the PM said.

“Pharmacists will follow the same informed consent process as a GP would follow.”

He said he wanted to give some oomph to the AZ vaccine, that is made in Melbourne.

“Bringing in the pharmacist earlier than we planned means that we
can get poor horsepower behind the AstraZeneca vaccine, but particularly I am concerned about ensuring that we get those over 70 getting vaccinated.”
