Catastrophic flooding in Germany killed more than 160 people and caused devastating damage to towns and cities across the states of Rhineland-Palatinate and North-Rhine Westphalia, footage shows. Video shared on Facebook shows damage in the district of Ahrweiler in Rhineland-Palatinate on Monday. German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday visited the village of Schuld in Rhineland-Palatinate, where she described the scene as “surreal,” according to reports. “I would almost say that the German language is struggling to find the words to describe the devastation that has been caused,” she said. At least 31 people died in neighboring Belgium as of July 18, and thousands of houses were destroyed, according to The Brussels Times. Credit: Vanessa Lnc via Storyful
