Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the majority of those infectious in the community are undertaking “critical activity” and urges residents to stay home where possible. “It’s very important to note unfortunately those that are infectious in the community are in the main derived from critical activity, buying groceries, going to the pharmacist, having to undertake critical work,” she said. “We’re finding the transmission in those areas where people have to be where they’re at and that’s why it’s really, really important to make sure that if you’ve been asked to have a test every three days you do so.” Ms Berejiklian said she would like to see Greater Sydney residents “stick to the rules we’ve provided” and treat the latest outbreak differently from those previous. “Please know that for 18 months we did extremely well in holding back the virus but Delta is very different to what we have and that’s why everybody needs to treat it differently.” “Don’t go about your business as you may have done during other occasions when we had outbreaks, this is a very different strain, very different set of circumstances, and that’s why we need to respond to it differently.”
